Precious
My name is Katalin Butcher, I’ve been studying photography part time since 2020. I mainly enjoy black and white portrait photography but want to grow more confident in colour so when I was thinking about what concept I wanted to explore in my 10 images I wanted it to be something I held dear to me. And that happens to be the perception of one’s own body image, how individuals view themselves and what they consider unattractive or even unsightly in some cases. This mentality heavily applies to women who grew up using social media as I’ve constantly seen what parts of our body should be changed and the lengths some are willing to go to so that they are able to fit into that mould, as if we are objects for society to constantly critique.
The message I wish to share is that despite the difficulties surrounding looking at ones own insecurities and seeing them in an unsavoury light. Yet from an outside point of view it’s just a body, thus I hope to show that bodies are beautiful and are something that should be celebrated despite the anxiousness of having to look in the mirror and see what you deem as “imperfect”.
